1) PREMISE:
Definition of Domestic Violence: domestic violence as "past or present physical and/or sexual violence between former or current intimate partners, adult household members, or adult children and a parent. Abused persons and perpetrators could be of either sex, and couples could be heterosexual or homosexual[Snugg from the Archives of Family Medicine(http://www.therapistfinder.net/Domestic-Violence/)]
It can happen during a relationship, while the couple is breaking up, or after the relationship has ended.

It can be broken up into physical and sexual violence. Physical violence includes punching, choking, biting, hitting, hair-pulling, stabbing, shooting, or threats of this type of violence. Sexual violence is characterized by physical attacks of the breast and/or genital area, unwanted touching, rape with objects, and forced sexual relations, including marital rape.(Douglas R. Marvin-New Providence, New Jersey, Police Department)

2) PREMISE:
Every year in the United States, 1,000
to 1,600 women die at the hands of
their male partners, often after a
long, escalating pattern of battering.
The estimated number of deaths due to
intimate partner violence does not include
those women who kill themselves to exit
violent relationships, or who die homeless
on the streets avoiding batterers.

3) PREMISE:
In the wake of a violent domestic abuse incident, batterers often attempt to convince responding police officers that their victims are mentally off balance. Many times they fool officers into leaving without conducting a proper, thorough investigation.

4) FROM 1,2 AND 3 IT FOLLOWS THAT:
Victims of domestic abuse have no other options. Police are unable to act unless they are on the scene, or have immediate empirical proof.

5) FROM 4 IT FOLLOWS THAT:
Only effective way to get out of a domestic abuse situation is often to incapacitate the abuser.
